沖縄のホテルアンテルーム那覇にて開催されるグループ展「土地のかたち The Shape of the Land」に参加いたします。本展では、沖縄で滞在制作した絵画や自身のアイデンティティを再考した新作を中心に展示する予定です。
I am pleased to announce my participation in the group exhibition "The Shape of the Land" at Hotel Anteroom Naha in Okinawa. This exhibition will feature my latest works, focusing on paintings created during my residency in Okinawa as well as pieces that reconsider my own identity.

展覧会ステイトメント
沖縄における美術表現において、戦争や政治、歴史といった社会的な文脈が深く関わることは、この土地が歩んできた道のりを考えれば極めて必然的なことと言えます。しかし、その文脈の重層さと切実さゆえに、外部から関わろうとする作家にとって、沖縄という場での表現に一種の「立ち入りがたさ」や、無意識の構えが生じている側面もあるのではないでしょうか。そして、歴史的、あるいは現在の本土と沖縄の権力関係を考えると、そうした緊張感は必要なものでもあります。
こうした問いを抱え、石川で活動する桜井旭と東京で活動する七篠奈津美は、沖縄を拠点とするキナサチコ、マチダハヤトと対話を重ね、また、実際に沖縄での滞在制作を通してその空気感に触れてきました。本展は、アンテルーム那覇での展示経験を持つキナとマチダが、沖縄で初めて作品を発表する桜井・七篠を迎え入れる形で実現します。
4名の拠点は異なりますが、それぞれの制作テーマは作家が生活する場所だけでなく、性別や家系といったパーソナルな文脈にも深く根ざしています。沖縄での展示だからといって、求められる役割に表現を収束させるのではなく、個々の内側にある切実なテーマを等身大に差し出すこと。その意志を込め、本展のタイトルを「土地のかたち」としました。
沖縄において「土地のかたち」という言葉は、往々にして島々の地学的・文化的な変遷を想起させます。しかし本展におけるそれは、作家個人の内側に沈殿した固有の歴史や、そこから立ち上がる表現そのもの、＝個の輪郭、をも指し示します。
制作過程での対話において、議論が「沖縄と本土」という構造的な二項対立に安易に立脚しそうになる場面がありました。しかし、歴史的・現在的な不均衡について認識し、互いの価値観や背景の違いについて意見を交わし続けることで、逆に、自分たちの立脚点、つまり自らの「かたち」を再発見する経験を得ました。
それぞれの作品に現れた、新たな価値観や発見、あるいは反発の跡が現れ、それが静かに波紋のように広がることを期待します。ぜひご覧ください。

Exhibition Statement
In Okinawan art, the deep involvement of social contexts—war, politics, and history—is an inevitable consequence of the islands’ trajectory. However, the sheer density and urgency of these contexts can sometimes create a sense of "inaccessibility" or an unconscious hesitation for artists attempting to engage from the outside. Given the historical and ongoing power dynamics between mainland Japan and Okinawa, such tension is arguably necessary.
Grappling with these questions, Akira Sakurai (based in Ishikawa) and Natsumi Nanashino (based in Tokyo) have engaged in continuous dialogue with Okinawa-based artists Sachiko Kina and Hayato Machida, while experiencing the local atmosphere firsthand through residencies. This exhibition is realized as Kina and Machida, both of whom have previously exhibited at Anteroom Naha, welcome Sakurai and Nanashino for their first presentation in Okinawa.
While the four artists operate from different locations, their respective themes are deeply rooted not only in their environments but also in personal contexts such as gender and lineage. Rather than converging their expressions into a prescribed "role" expected of an exhibition in Okinawa, they aim to present the urgent themes within themselves at an intimate, human scale. With this intention, the exhibition is titled "The Shape of the Land."
In Okinawa, the phrase "The Shape of the Land" (Tochi no Katachi) often evokes the geological and cultural transitions of the islands. In this exhibition, however, it also refers to the unique histories settled within the individual artists and the expressions that arise from them—the "contours of the self."
During the production process, there were moments when our dialogue risked falling into a simplistic binary of "Okinawa vs. Mainland Japan." Yet, by acknowledging historical and contemporary imbalances and continuing to exchange views on our differing values and backgrounds, we instead experienced a rediscovery of our own standing points—our own "shapes."
We hope that the traces of new perspectives, discoveries, and even points of resistance manifest in each work will ripple outward quietly. We look forward to your visit.
